GE Vernova has announced the acquisition of Woodward’s heavy-duty gas turbine combustion parts business, located in Greenville, South Carolina. According to the definitive agreement, GE Vernova will take over all assets at Woodward’s Greenville facility, which specializes in parts and services for gas turbine manufacturing. This acquisition is part of GE Vernova’s strategy to strengthen its U.S. manufacturing base, create jobs, and enhance its domestic supply chain. The deal is expected to close in early 2025, subject to standard closing conditions.

Eric Gray, President & CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing the value of integrating this capability to address the growing global demand for heavy-duty gas turbines. He highlighted the importance of this move in meeting national electrification needs and reinforcing GE Vernova’s commitment to the industry and community. Woodward’s employees in Greenville are expected to transition smoothly under GE Vernova’s ownership.
Woodward’s Chairman and CEO, Chip Blankenship, praised the agreement, noting it allows Woodward to focus resources on core products that generate greater value. He thanked the Greenville team for their dedication and expressed confidence in their continued success with GE Vernova.
In parallel, GE Vernova has been making strides in the energy sector, recently equipping South Korea’s 1-GW Tongyeong Eco Power combined-cycle power plant with advanced HA gas turbines. The plant, capable of powering one million households, features
2 units of 7HA.02 gas turbines,
1 unit of STF-D600 steam turbine, and other components.
The turbines offer flexibility by burning hydrogen-natural gas blends, reducing CO2 emissions significantly compared to coal-fired plants of similar capacity.
Earlier in 2024, GE Vernova showcased its state-of-the-art Greenville facility, which spans 1.7 million square feet and houses manufacturing, repair, and technology centers dedicated to advancing gas turbine innovation.
